Lengha

Lenghas are amongst the most flamboyant of all Indian clothes. More recently they have become very popular for weddings, with bridal lenghas being the outfit of choice for many Indian brides. A Lengha is a kind of skirt, usually heavily embroidered with beads and other ornate forms of decoration. A Lengha is usuallly worn with a Choli, a short blouse most popular in India. Whilst the Choli is ususallly quite taylored / close fitting with short sleeves and a low neck. The Lengha is actually very loose. These garments can become very heavy if embroidered, particularly those designed for special occasions.

In western countries like the UK, Lengha are typically worn by the bridal party at weddings, but do not make the most practical of every day wear. Cut out backs and front opening buttons are features of more recent designs which again, make them less practical for every day wear. Some of the more expensive designer choli’s are supported so that no bra is needed when wearing them.
